Out Of The Mouths Of Babes

This week we met with a man named Sergei, the one that had been coming to church recently. After church we met with him and his girlfriend who is a recent convert of about 2 years. We started teaching him by asking him a few questions so we would know what direction to take the lesson, he believes in God and Jesus Christ and has a Book of Mormon. He doesn’t drink or smoke so that gives you an idea of what he is like. So many Ukrainians smoke and drink, it is kind of sad. We taught him about the Gospel of Jesus Christ, Faith in Christ, repentance, baptism, gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. We taught him why the restoration needed to happen in order for us to have the Gospel on the earth today in its fullness. Here is where the tender mercy of the week happened, we asked him about his reading and he told us that he doesn’t have much time to read and that he is busy. Well since we were having the meeting in the church after the block there were still some kids running around being really loud kind of making it hard to even teach the lesson, well right when we asked this question one of the girls, she was about 11 stopped and listened to his answer, and then she replied back. When she first began to speak I was nervous about what she might say to him. She told him what she does to be able to read the Book of Mormon every day is that she wakes up early and reads for about 15 minutes, she asked him if he could do that. It made him realize that having no time wasn’t a good excuse and that even this little girl finds time to read I love children. I love that she didn’t even have to think about it, she just didn’t understand why you wouldn’t read the scriptures every day. From that point on the lesson had a different feeling to it and it was nice. We asked Sergei if he would be baptized when he received an answer and he said yes! It was one of the best lessons I have had on my mission so far and I left it so full of a love for Christ, this Gospel and all that I have been given. The spirit really does work through us and touches our own hearts.
